THE DOHERTY AWARD LECTURE AND HONORING 50 AND 60 YEAR MEMBERS TEXAS CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY (TCU)

"SEMICONDUCTOR NANOSTRUCTURES AS USEFUL BIOMATERIALS"

PROFESSOR JEFF COFFER, TCU

Monday, SEPTEMBER 13, 2010

About the Talk: The controlled synthesis of semiconductors such as crystalline silicon in nanoscale dimensions can provide materials of relevance to therapies such as drug delivery and tissue engineering. This talk will describe examples from our labs regarding the preparation and characterization of such materials, and the relationship between structure, composition, and in selected cases, biological activity.

About the Speaker: Dr. Jeff Coffer has been a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry at TCU since January of 1990. His research interests lie in the area of nanoscience and nanotechnology, where he has published more than 110 papers, three patents, and directed the research of more than 17 doctoral students and 28 undergraduates. In addition to the 2010 Doherty Award, Dr. Coffer has received several other awards for his work, including the 2009 Chancellor’s Award for Distinguished Achievement as a Creative Teacher and Scholar at TCU.
